The entire chapter, detailing Israel's fall in exile and rebirth in redemption, is written repeatedly in Hebrew. The sounding of the shofar (ram's horn) reflects G-d's uplifted hand bringing forth branches and fruit, wheat and corn, fields tilled and sown, and the ruins rebuilt by the nations. The fig tree, with its heart-shaped fruit, is planted in the middle of this scene. This symbolizes the return and rooting of the Jewish people, cleansed and pure of heart and spirit, into the land of their fathers. The forefathers oversee the drama of the fulfillment of this prophecy. May we, too, be blessed to see it in our time. Amen!
